The Thorax consists of not only the 12 middle vertebrae of the spine, but also of the 12 ribs attached to them. Strength in the muscles that support the thorax is critical for proper posture and upper body strength. The whole RIBCAGE area - front, back and side is known as The Thorax
Here we see a good view of the LUMBAR area which lays just below the ribcage and whose muscles are activated through pelvic movement.
